Robust performance systems are in place that are able to translate policy and best practice into useful metrics monitor progress and delivery

  • Use of tools such as 'Better Metrics, Y&H standards framework, best practice standards e.g. RCPsych/BPS guidance on supporting people with challenging behavior

  • Governance structures are able to monitor in detail key issues e.g. use of restraint, incidents and accidents, prescribing patterns, treatment opportunities and choices, delayed discharge etc

People with learning disabilities and family carers are at the centre of, and participate in, standard setting, performance monitoring and service evaluation

  • There is a quality monitoring system in place that fully involves people who use services and their families and a range of ways to seek their views, opinions and advice

  • Detailed accessible information about performance is available for those who use the service as well as those who work within it

  • People who use services and their families are provided with accessible material that appraise them of the standards they should expect, their rights, how to complain etc

Quality is 'everyone's business' and all staff are encouraged to look at the way they 'measure what matters' in their work and make best use of information in person centred plans and health action plans to assess outcomes

  • Individual's plans are 'outcomes' focused and regularly reviewed

  • There are agreed standards within the service that have been drawn from, and reflect what people who use the service and their families think is important

  • All staff are encouraged to look at their personal performance, skills and attributes and how they contribute to the delivery of high quality support e.g. identifying where they may need to acquire skills to improve the patients experience of CPA meetings
